Farm Fixer

In 2000 after a few vets had contacted us asking for help in removing the bodies of pets that had passed away, they encouraged me along with my mother to set up a pet crematorium. After becoming licensed and purchasing the equipment we needed Craigycor Pet Crematorium was opened.

We started off working from home and within a few years we had opened our "quiet room" allowing a little privacy for customers.

In 2010 we talked about our hopes of opening a horse crematorium but with all else that was happening it never got past the planning stage.

In early 2013 we applied for a diversification grant with the possibility of purchasing new equipment allowing individual equine cremation. We were delighted to receive this.

A few weeks later we received a call asking us to apply for "Farm Fixer". Obviously our immediate thoughts were "no way" but in the end we thought we would give it a go never thinking wed get picked! How wrong were we!!

Filming began in January with lots of busy days and of course the highlight meeting Nick Hewer! Everyone was lovely and made us feel very at ease.

April began the building and moving of our "farewell room" to a quieter location, something we are absolutely delighted with.

During May we met up with Mark Thompson a rebranding expert who helped us with our name change. His brief was to find a name that connect with people who have lost a pet and reassure that they were putting their their pet in the hands of a business they could trust. Mark spent time with us to understand all that we do and care about. This resulted in PetsFarewell Pet and Horse Crematorium.

We were encouraged to join the Association of Private Pet Cemeteries and Crematoria (APPCC), which has a code of practice that we must follow - to ensure a quality of service to pet owners. As part of this we met with Kevin Spurgeon of Dignity Pet Crematorium, who gave us lots of pointers on how to provide a professional and personal service to our customers.

The whole "farm fixer" experience has been fantastic. We have really enjoyed working with whole team, it's been a really big learning curve and we are delighted with what we have achieved this year.
