Who We Are

Our Family's Commitment to You

Caring for Pets Since 2000

PetsFarewell is a family-owned and managed pet crematorium, fully licensed and DAERA approved. Owned by Karen and Ian Matthews, their lives have always revolved around a deep love and respect for animals.

Ian: "We opened the crematorium in 2000 after we had received calls from various vets asking us to help. From leaving school I have always worked closely with animals. My first pet at age 5 was a little black Pomeranian called Sooty. I still think of her often and can remember how devastated I was when she died."

Karen: "Animals give us so much unconditional love. We are very involved with rescue animals, especially the old guys that need that retirement home. For us, being able to help people and being entrusted to look after their loved ones on their final journey is a great privilege."

Navigating the First 48 Hours

The sharp, sudden weight of loss can feel completely paralyzing. Here are gentle, step-by-step suggestions compiled by counselors on how to navigate these initial days:

1. Grant Yourself Complete Permission to Grieve

Society often downplays pet loss. Understand that your grief is entirely valid, matching the depth of the deep love you shared. Let yourself cry, feel angry, or simply sit in silence.

2. Establishing a Simple Remembrance Space

Place their favorite collar, a photo, or a flower in a dedicated corner of your home. Creating an immediate focal point provides a physical space for reflection and quiet thought.

3. Deciding What to Do with Their Items

Do not rush to hide or donate their beds, bowls, or toys. Wait until the initial numbness lessens. Keep items right where they are if seeing them brings comfort, or store them gently in a memorial chest when ready.
